Matt & Natalie | Dulwich Wood, South London

Matt and Natalie are good friends of mine, which made this one a little different.
There's a particular kind of ease that comes with photographing people you already know well. No settling-in period, no awkward first ten minutes. We just walked into Dulwich Wood with their Springer Spaniel Sadie and got on with it.
Dulwich Wood is one of those South London spots that surprises you. It's not far from anything, but once you're in it the city disappears. We timed it for the last hour of light, when everything goes warm and a little golden and the trees do most of the work for you. Sadie ran ahead. Matt and Natalie wandered. I followed.
What I remember most is how much they laughed. Not performed laughter for the camera, just the ordinary kind that happens between two people who are genuinely happy to be in each other's company. That's the thing you can't manufacture. Either it's there or it isn't. With them, it was always there.
I'll be back for the wedding. This time with no camera, just a glass of something and a spot on the dancefloor.
